I've had a lot to write about, but not enough time to write. On Saturday morning I'm flying to Ohio for my grandma's 80th birthday. My whole immediate family will be staying in cottages with my grandma in Lake Hope state park. I'm staying there Saturday through Wednesday, the rest of my family is staying the whole week. I'm looking forward to hiking, kayaking, swimming, and relaxing. Mostly I'm looking forward to relaxing.

This past week I've been juggling a sick bird and a project I did for part of my present to my grandma. Figaro isn't really that sick. I think I actually overreacted in taking him to the vet, but my overreaction cost me antibiotic drops in his beak twice a day. He. Just. Loves. Them. (Not!) I jumped into worry mode late last week when I came home to find Figaro sitting on the floor of his cage two days in a row. With birds, this can be a sign of illness. Usually they stay near the top of their cages. He was showing no other symptoms of illness, but I'd rather err on the side of cautious when it comes to his health. The past few days, Figaro has definitely not been exhibiting any signs of illness. In fact, he seems to have perfected his skill at escaping his cage. Yesterday when I walked into my apartment he was perched gingerly on my TV antenna. Today when I came home he was up on my ceiling fan. The problem is he hasn't figured out how to get back into his cage, so he's usually pretty hungry and thirsty when I get home. I think perhaps it is time to see how long it takes him to figure out how to undo a screw lock on his door.

When I haven't been dealing with my bird, I have been expending copious amounts of time on making cards. My whole family is going together to get my grandmother a fruit of the month subcription from Pittman Davis, but I wanted to give her something more personal as well. My sister wrote a story in which my grandmother is the protagonist (the background details are based on her life, the main plotline is fictional). I couldn't come up with anything quite that cool; but, at my sister's suggestion, I decided to make her a bunch of greeting cards for various occasions. I ended up making her 14 cards in all (unless I get a burst of creativity tomorrow and make some more). I'll try to take pictures to put up before I give them to her. I was really pretty happy with how most of them turned out.

My only other excitement this week was [livejournal.com profile] eqe's housecooling party last weekend, dinner with my sister and family on Sunday, and visiting our brand spanking new Ikea with [livejournal.com profile] rgeorge yesterday. We went to go get some food, and got it for free because their computers went down after we'd already started going through the line. After we ate, we wandered through the labyrinthine furniture displays until they announced that they were closing.

Now I'm at [livejournal.com profile] rgeorge's apartment. Not only is he going to put antibiotic drops in Figaro's beak twice a day for me while I'm out of town, he also made me a really yummy dinner. He rocks.
