I'm a winner!
Oct. 22nd, 2005 10:45 amLast night Rogers and I went to the big annual fundraiser of the bird rescue organization (MAARS) that we both volunteer at. I bought some raffle tickets early in the evening, and was bidding on various items - some orchestra and opera tickets, another packet of tickets that I thought would make a good present for my sister (4 tickets each to the science museum, the MN Zoo, and the aquarium at the Mall of America), and a big thing of Rocky Mountain Chocolates. When it became abundantly clear that I wasn't going to get any of the items I was bidding on, I decided to go buy some more raffle tickets so that I was actually adding something to the 'fund' side of fundraiser (other than my contribution of helping to bid up the items early on in the evening). And I won the biggest raffle prize. Actually, it is a very wee raffle prize, but biggest in terms of monetary value. I won an iPod nano.
Compared to my 20 GB iPod, it's so tiny! I haven't been to the Apple store since they rolled out the nano, so I'd only seen the pictures online. Despite the fact that I won fair and square, I felt a little guilty about winning. I won't say I didn't want to win, but there were probably people there who wanted to win it a lot more than I did. Now that I have it though, I'm really pretty excited by it. The color screen is nice, and it'll be nice to have something so portable to put a few pictures on in addition to music. Also, it has a game I really like. I'd totally forgotten about this game, but I used to play it on
minorninth's mac in college. It's called 'Brick' on the nano, but I'm not sure if that's what it was called back then. It also has solitaire, a game that involves shooting at helicopters, and some sort of trivia game. My one real complaint so far is that they only give you a USB port charger for it, not one that hooks into a regular outlet. It's a minor complaint - they do include a dock adapter so I can charge it on the dock I have for the 20 GB iPod, but it's still a complaint. Does anyone more Apple knowledgeable than me know if I can use my 20 GB outlet charger with the nano?
Anyhow, I'm happy. I've only ever won little raffle items like T-shirts before. Also, the auction seemed to be relatively successfull. It seemed like items were going for higher prices than last year, though it's possible I just stopped paying attention to what they were going for earlier last year.
