As many of you know, I am now a home owner. Huzzah!
The closing took a long time because the sellers were doing some sort of living estate setup, and there were some complications with that. I signed my name lots of times, and then once *I* was done signing the sellers were still at it. Then it was a lot of waiting. I chatted with the sellers and I got some more about the history of the house.
After the closing I went over to the house and my parents helped me switch over the phone jacks (they were four pronged ones), take down the drapes, weed the window wells and a few other parts of the yard, take down the drapes, change the locks, and begin 'mudding' the spots on the walls where there are hairline cracks. Today after work I went over there again and went for a walk around the neighborhood. I'm about 5 blocks from the Minnehaha Creek, and about 7 blocks from 2-3 block radius of cute little shops and restaurants. Among other things, I'm walking distance from the Turtle Bread Company, Pepito's, Pumphouse Creamery (I stopped in and got a cone of fresh strawberry ice cream), a Greek deli/diner, Amazon Bookstore (it's a feminist bookstore, and it pre-dates amazon.com), a one-screen arthouse theater (the Parkway), and various little tchotchke shops. After the walk I put a second coat of mudding on the walls, and mudded a few spots I missed yesterday. Tomorrow I'll mudd again and will attempt to take down the hardware associated with the drapes. Started Saturday, the floors are being refinished, so I won't be able to go into much of the house until next Friday.
I'll probably have the housewarming party in August. After I've had a chance to paint and get more settled in. :) If you absolutely can't stand waiting until August though, you're welcome to swing by anytime I'm around to see the house in its transitional state. (ust give me a call prior to coming over; address and phone are in a friends-locked post.
